POLICY DOCUMENT ON ADMISSIONS, PAYMENTS & ABSENTEEISM

Step 1: PICK UP REGISTRATION FORM

Please pick up a registration form from the Admission Office. Please see ‘Important Information about TNS’ for contacts.

Please note that registration forms are provided free of cost.

Step 2: RETURN REGISTRATION FORM

Please return the completed registration form to the Admission Office with the registration fee of Rs. 3,000 (non-refundable). Please make sure you are given a receipt at the time.

Step 3: DOCUMENTS TO SUBMIT

Along with the form, please submit the following documents. An application will not be processed or will be considered incomplete without the following documents:

2 x Passport size photographs of the child

  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of CNIC of both parents
  • Copy of School leaving certificate (if applicable)
  • Copy of School reports (if applicable)

Step 4: ADMISSION TEST

Your child will be invited to be assessed by the appropriate Year/Level teacher. We will not only assess your child’s academic capabilities but also his social and emotional behaviour.

Please note your child may be asked to come for a 2nd assessment. This does not mean a progression in the admission procedure. Consequently, you may request a reassessment if you feel your child underperformed on the day for reasons of nerves, illness, domestic problem etc.

You may request an appointment to see the Head / Deputy Head of TNS, for a detailed discussion about your child’s education.

Step 5: DECISION ON ADMISSION OF CHILD

The administration will communicate its decision to you within 10 business days of your child’s assessment test.

Step 6: PAYMENT UPON ADMISSION

If your child is accepted into TNS, you will be requested to pay the Admission and Security fees immediately in order to secure his/her place. (You must pay the tuition fee when the challan form is issued. Please note all parents pay the tuition in two-monthly installments in advance.)

All documentation is to be submitted including Medical/Dental/Immunisation records.

  • A full booklist will be provided to you.
  • A full set of school classroom and sports uniform must be bought prior to the child’s joining.
  • All necessary stationery must be provided in advance.
  • We now have a fully operative school shop where the uniform, stationery may be purchased (situated as you come into the school).

Step 7: FEE PAYMENT

A bank credit voucher (challan form) is issued for each sector of fees you pay for your child. School fees and other charges shall be paid every two months in advance through a local designated bank. This is payable for all twelve calendar months. All payments to be made in cash as BSS does not accept credit cards or cheques.

The school has the discretion to review and increase the school fees and all other fee charges and deposits ancillary thereto, without prior written notice.

Exceeding the final fee payment date will occasion either a daily penalty of Rs. 100 per day or in extreme cases a request for you to remove your child from school until fees are paid in full. We believe the timescale for payments in sectors and in terms of time are generous ones.

You will also be reminded by both letter and a final phone call of your duty to pay your child(ren)’s fee by last due date.

The school regrets that no concession will be given in the case of two or more siblings attending any school in the Beaconhouse School System.

WITHDRAWAL

If parents wish to withdraw their child from school, one month’s notice in writing must be given to the school. One month’s fee must be paid to the school in lieu of such notice.

Notwithstanding the above, a student shall be considered to be withdrawn from school if:

  • They have not attended the school for a period of one month, unless arrangements for such absence have been agreed by the Head of the school.
  • Their fees have remained unpaid for two consecutive months.
  • They have been asked to withdraw from school due to disciplinary reasons. In the event of such a withdrawal the school shall not be required to give any notice before enforcing its decision, which shall be within the absolute and sole discretion of the school.
  • They have failed in the same class for two consecutive years or have failed to qualify for promotion on two different occasions in their school career.

Inter-city and International transfer

TNS Beaconhouse offers as one of its advantages the facility to transfer from one Beaconhouse school to another Beaconhouse school in the same or another city of Pakistan. In addition, we are now pleased to offer an international transfer facility to our schools in Singapore, Bangladesh, Oman, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and the UK etc.

Eligibility

A student is eligible to apply for inter-school transfer facilities, provided that:

  • They have completed twelve months or one academic year at the branch of TNS Beaconhouse.
  • They have cleared all their dues from TNS Beaconhouse.
  • There is no gap between the date of withdrawal from TNS to the date of admission in another branch of Beaconhouse.
  • They have not been suspended or received more than one disciplinary warning.

If a student qualifies for transfer:

  • No admission fees will be charged by the branch to which the student is transferred.
  • The security deposit of the student will automatically be transferred to the new branch.

Even if a student is eligible for transfer, they shall only qualify for it subject to the availability of a vacancy in the requested branch. The decision of the relevant regional office will be final in this regard.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TNS

TNS currently offers the following class levels:

Level               Age on 10 September 2012

Nursery           Age 3+

Reception        Age 4+

KG                  Age 5+

Year 1             Age 6+

Year 2             Age 7+

Year 3             Age 8+

Year 4             Age 9+

Year 5             Age 10+

Year 6             Ages 11+

Year 7             Ages 12+

Year 8             Ages 13+

Year 9             Ages 14+

Year 10           Ages 15+

Decisions on accepting pupils slightly younger (or older) than the recommended age for corresponding class levels can only be taken by the admissions committee and will depend on a variety of factors including their date of birth.

2013 and Beyond

TNS will continue to add classes each year, eventually leading to the IB. At present our Middle Years Programme is with the MYP of the IB system leading to classes 11 & 12 to the Cambridge (CIE) IGCSE Examination in 10 subjects. TNS is now also a candidate school to offer the IB Diploma.

However, students who still wish to pursue the A Levels will have that option either in-house at TNS or at a flagship BSS campus.

Class Size and Teacher-Pupil ratio

The teacher-pupil ratio is 1 teacher per 12+ pupils in classes Nursery to Year 5. It is 1 teacher per 15+ pupils in Years 6 to 10. Larger classes will have 2 teachers who may be present from the beginning. Alternatively, the second teacher may be introduced when the class size exceeds 10 pupils. This decision will be at the complete discretion of school management and may vary from class to class.

The overall teacher-pupil ratio at TNS will, however, be even lower than 1:13, because dedicated coordinators for Art, Education Technology, Physical Education, Music, Dance etc., will provide continuous support for both pupils and class teachers.

School Times

Detailed school times are as below. The following are indicative times and are subject to change:

                               School Timings

Nursery                 8.30 am to 12.30 pm, Monday to Friday

Reception             8.30 am to 1.00 pm

KG                          8.30 am to 1.30 pm

Year 1-3                8.30 am to 2.30 pm

Year 4-5                8.30 am to 2.30 pm

Year 6-9                8.30 am to 3.45 pm

(This may move to 4.00 pm as we open the MYP – IB programme)

Friday timing for TNS Gulberg is from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm

Friday timing for TNS Defence is from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm

We must make it clear that SCHOOL STARTS TEACHING AT 8.30 a.m. SHARP. No concessions will be made for late arrival. A 5-minute only grace period will be allowed, after which the parents will have to see the Head of School at that time to allow admission.

TNS strongly believes in the importance of after-school activities, both co- and extra-curricular. Therefore it is highly unlikely that students in primary school (Year 1 to 9) will go home before 3.30 pm.

Absence from School

TNS has a strong policy against regular absenteeism. We make it very clear that absence without permission or notice in the form of hand written, email or telephonic message will result in your being asked to keep your child at home until the matter has been discussed and a plan of action decided by you to ensure your child is present at school every day unless it is impossible for him to be there.

Our reasons for such regulations is that absentee children slow down both their own educational progress and that of their peers and we need to keep everyone in class up to date with all aspects of the groups’ study and learning.

We expect a 90% attendance from each student each year. The possibility of repeating a year based on poor attendance cannot be ruled out.

Parental authorisation

We would be most grateful if you would give permission for your child to be videoed, photographed (including pictures taken on mobiles) and allowed to use the internet under guidance only. We are very conscious of the need to keep you informed and seek your permission before taking any shots of child activity for portfolios, newsletters, websites etc.
