Drama
Drama tuition within the school is designed to build not only a strong performance ability but a knowledge and understanding of dramatic literature and its place within our culture. Both GCSE and GCE (A Level) drama can be taken at the school and this allows students to immerse themselves in both the practical and theoretical side of the subject, using text and improvisational skills, while also offering wonderful performance opportunities within a range of dramatic genre – including the very modern and classical.
However, the school recognises the importance of pre-examination training and seeks to ensure students have a very firm foundation of knowledge related to many types of drama and playwrights before they reach an examination stage. As well as a regular full-scale school musical production and various smaller shows, it is intended to reinstate a tradition of outdoor Shakespeare productions within the school grounds in the Summer Term. These will involve a wide number of students from both the Performing Arts and curriculum drama departments.The school has recently been complimented by an examination board upon the professional competency and administrational excellence of its preparation of students for examination.
