Newlands is proudly a non-selective school. It caters for a wide ability range, and its setting policy, allied to the extra help available to those who need some specific help to maximise their potential, allows the school to offer appropriate education to the majority of children.
Entrance is by interview with the headmaster, and reports from the previous school. Where there are more detailed reports available, for example and Educational Psychologist's report, these will be requested and carefully studied prior to interview.
Newlands puts great store by the idea of 'Taster Days', when a child comes to the school for one or two days, and sometimes even longer. This allows the pupil to get a feeling for the school and for the school to get to know the prospective pupil better. It also makes the moment of joining the school much less daunting for the pupil since they are already conversant with the routines and shape of the school day, as well as having already found friends within their peer group.
