State of the art music suite opens at Newlands School
Newlands School in Seaford has always prided itself on offering a wide-ranging provision of music and drama within its curriculum and, this week, enhanced its facilities yet further, with the opening of a new music technology suite.
The suite houses an impressive collection of the latest music and computer equipment, designed to enable students to record and develop their musical creations with such elements as multi-track recording and computer sequencing – the technology you would usually associate with the professionals.
“This is a fantastic addition for our music students who now have the benefit of a studio environment in which to hone their talent.” explained Jane Pendry, director of music at Newlands.
The project was made possible by the generosity of the Chittenden family, the founders of the Newlands Educational Trust and owners of the land surrounding the school. Mavis Chittenden, wife of the original school owner, was present at the opening ceremony, along with governors and headteachers past and present.
“I’m sure I speak for all of our music students when I say that we are extremely grateful to the Chittendens for their support. Aside from the benefits this facility will bring to our GCSE and A-Level pupils, I can’t wait for the next round of concerts and performances!” added Mike Holland, governor and co-owner of the school.
