Newlands Panto Review

panto2On Friday 7th December the children of Newlands Prep staged a magnificent rendition of Captain Hook’s Revenge that would rival a West End production! The staff and pupils worked and rehearsed tirelessly to adapt Richard Coleman’s Pantomime. It was adapted to suit the performing pupils and extra scenes and original songs were incorporated to accommodate the younger children.

For many of the pupils this was their first time performing in a large production, on stage in front of two packed houses – a morning and evening performance. They were encouraged to create their own characterisations, movements and vocal style. It was their pantomime formed after huge amounts of commitment and concentrated effort during the rehearsals.

All of the budding thespians performed their roles exceptionally well but special mention has to go to Jack Roberts – who played a remarkable dame’s role as Mrs Dotty Darling, Connor Glinski as Peter Pan & his arch rival Captain Hook played by Callam Jones and supported by Peter Baldwin as Smee and Ruth Godfrey as Sharkey. Jessie Hamilton, the Crocodile shone as strongly as the “bling” he wore and although Tonicha Gent was silent for most of the show, her facial expressions and demeanour as Tonkerbell brought a whole new dimension to Peter Pan’s faithful fairy, whose voice had been stolen. Finally, Olivia Tilley’s performance as the Old Crone of the Hill had the audience falling from their seats with laughter.
