A day in the life of a news reporter
Year 7 students have had their first taste of life as BBC news Reporters.
Supported by Teachers, Jon Dale and Lisa Harris, 25 students were excused from their usual lessons to take part in a reporters training day in preparation for the BBC School Report Day on March 11th.
Like all reporters, the group spent time researching interesting stories and events so that they could produce a written news report. Later on in the day, after ties had been straightened and hair smoothed, each student had the opportunity to present their own news report to camera.
Next week the students will be using newly purchased multi media equipment to edit footage. South East Today Reporter, Natalie Graham, will also be visiting Newlands to share her expertise with the students in preparation for their big day!
On March 11th, along with hundreds of other schools from across the country, the students will research, write and record their own news report. The reports will then be uploaded on to the School website so that they can be viewed and extracted by the BBC. The BBC will then select a number of reports from across the country to broadcast on regional news programmes that day.
