Sporting Success at Newlands
With outstanding facilities on the 21acre site at Newlands, it is not surprising that its pupils regularly compete at a high level when playing sport against other schools in the area.
On Wednesday 3rd March, Newlands hosted an under 12s mixed Netball Tournament. Five schools spent the afternoon battling for the tournament cup but in the end it was the home team who was victorious.
Pupils at Newlands are extremely active and enjoy a wide range of sporting activities within their PE programme. Swimming, gymnastics, badminton, basketball, athletics, rugby, cricket, hockey, football and tennis all take place within the schools extensive site.
Newlands has a number of pupils who excel in their chosen sport and regularly represent the county. Abigail Jaques and Jade Cruise are exceptional young gymnast and both a member of the Sussex Gymnastic Squad. Ten year old Alex Abaza, currently has a Lawn Tennis Association rating of 9.1. He was a finalist in the Seaford Open Under 10s, Sussex Packaging Advantage Master 2009 and the 2009 Sussex County Closed Under 10 Junior Championship.
Every year the P.E department offers a variety of day trips to recognised sporting events to enhance the sporting development of pupils. International rugby matches, premiership football matches, and international tennis tournaments have all inspired pupils to strive for excellence.
