Co-Educational Day School and Boarding from 0-18 years

Nursery (0-4 YEARS)

At Newlands we set out to create an environment in which children will be safe, stimulated and challenged; a place where fun and enjoyment go hand in hand with learning and discovery. Achieving aims and maintaining our high standards does not happen by accident. It is the result of a carefully thought out approach, clearly defined objectives and high standards, as well as regular reviews of our performance.

We value our relationship with our parents and are committed to working in partnership with them by sharing information, listening and fostering good communication.

The Nursery staff are fully C.R.B. vetted and regularly attend inset training to keep up to date with the current governmental policies. All have appropriate Qualifications including N.V.Q, P.L.A and R.G.N

All our staff have made a commitment to these aims;

  • Provide the children in our care with an environment that is healthy, safe and educationally stimulating;
  • Value and support the children's natural curiosity, inquisitiveness and experimentation;
  • Ensure, as far as possible, that children acquire a positive image of themselves;
  • Provide activities and events that are developmentally appropriate;
  • Continue to undertake professional training and development;
  • Work as a team.

We believe that early childhood is a time of rapid open-minded learning, of vivid imagination and intrigue with the universe.

The children's absorbent, active minds are ready and willing to be exposed to a variety of learning experiences.

We are committed to preserving the children's right to be playful, have fun and develop at their own pace. The variety of activities and experiences we offer will engage them in exploring the richness and diversity of seasons, festivals, their own interests, and the interests of other's.

Our approach incorporates principles which are synonymous with common features of good practice. This includes the implementation of the Early Learning Goals Curriculum and requirements laid down by the Department of Education in the Q.C.A. Curriculum Guidance document, and also the Sure Start programme: Early Years Foundation Stage. We provide a well organised physical environment, consistent daily routine, and an adult approach that encourages children to:

  • Use initiative and make decisions about what they are going to do and how they are going to do it;
  • Develop self-discipline, identify personal goals and complete self-chosen tasks;
  • Work with other children and adults so that work done is a result of group planning co-operative effort and shared leadership;
  • Express themselves through speech, writing, drawing, movement and drama;
  • Be creative, have a spirit of enquiry and openness to knowledge and other people's point of view;
  • Apply reason in a wide range of situations and use a variety of materials.

 We operate a continual assessment system using the Stepping Stone from the Q.C.A. Curriculum Guidance document which helps us to plan activities and work to the level needed for each individual child.
