Creativity at Newlands

All children come with an intense curiosity about the world around them.

Their imagination, creativity and their fresh take on the way things work is something that all children have in common, but they will also have particular strengths, interests and passions that make them individuals.

At Newlands, we believe that one of the main purposes of education is to help individuals to realise their own unique potential.

The ‘one size fits all’ approach of traditional schooling overlooks the fact that education of the individual has to be tailored personally.

Children learn best, and remain motivated if they are engaged in what they are doing and if they have creative ownership of work that is made relevant to them.  Our children live in a world that is more connected and information rich than at any time in history, and their eager engagement with new technology proves that they have an amazing capacity to learn if the conditions are right.

The purpose for us as educators is to equip our young people with the right technical and social skills and the best qualifications for their future lives.

There are two challenges here; firstly we have to foster the understanding that what happens at school is a development of real life, and that their learning is a key to the confusing and exciting world beyond the front field. Secondly, we have to ensure that our children are readied for a world that does not yet exist.

The key skills for our children’s futures will be the abilities to think laterally and globally and to be original and inventive.

In order to engage our students we have creativity as a fundamental core and the concept of open- ended learning runs through everything we do.

At Newlands we produce well-rounded, adaptable, confident and open minded creatives; the problem solvers and innovators of their generation.
